Benjamin's
Camac harp is a bespoke Electro Harp 36
In
April 2003 while at a Harp Festival, Benjamin tried one of Camac's
world famous Electric Lever Harps and was enthralled. Unfortunately
the model he tried was already sold and no more were going to
be available for some time as Camac were about to redesign the instrument
with new levers and a new look.
Camac and their UK distributors Telynau Vining Harps
leant Benjamin a display model and it was with this harp that he
recorded two of the tracks for his CD for BBC Children in Need -
Ben Jamming.
Benjamin sent a copy of Ben Jamming to
Camac Harps - The response was rather unexpected. Jaquez François,
President of Camac Harps, returned the deposit Benjamin had paid
for the new electric harp and said that Benjamin would have the first
new model to be made as a gift from Camac!
The harp arrived in early 2004, painted in Benjamin's
favourite colour and named "Ben
Jamming" This harp is great for Benjamin's more modern music
such as Misty, Into the West (from Lord or the Rings) or any of the
wonderful compositions such as New Blues and Nataliana by Deborah
Henson-Conant and is ideal for larger concert venues and his fund
raising events.
In 2006 Benjamin used his electric Camac while filming
"Take a Bow" for BBC TV a short show he presented himself
which has been shown repeatedly on TV stations across Europe as
well as on BBC 1, BBC 2 & cBBC. In 2008 he performed at the 10th
World Harp Congress (Amsterdam) and later that year won the Junior
(Under 16) Lily Laskine at the age of 12. In 2011 he will perform
at the 11th World Harp Congress (Vancouver). He has also performed
at The Rio Harp Festival (Brazil), The International Harp Festival
of Sentmenat (Spain), The Ludlow Festival, as well events in France
and Italy. On 1st March 2010 he performed for HRH The Prince of Wales
at Clarence House.
In April 2010 he was delighted to play the prototype
Camac Midi Harp at the Wales International Harp Festival. During
2010 he published the first 6 Volumes of his Jazz
Harp Series: Chameleon,
Brazil, Yardbird Suite, Autumn Leaves, Pure Imagination & Take
Five.
During 2010 & 2011 he
has given recitals in Szeged, Hungary, The Derbyshire
Harp Festival, The Edinburgh International Harp
Festival, The Rio Harp Festival (2010 & 2011) and The Ludlow
Festival (2010 & 2011). He is an Official Ambassador for George Thomas
Hospice Care, The British Heart Foundation & The Order of St John
and has raised nearly £250,000
for various charities.
Benjamin recently performed on the ITV 1 show "Born
to Shine" when Welsh rugby legend Gareth Thomas learnt to play the
harp for Save the Children. Gareth used a Camac
Atlantide Prestige supplied by Telynau Vining Harps.
Benjamin is 15 years old (2011)
